AI acceleration is out of control, and nobody knows how to handle it. Even the tech CEOs who created the stuff are scared. It’s time for an organized resistance.

The trouble, of course, is that AI will eventually be smarter than us. Almost omniscient. What’s that old saying from Star Trek? Oh yeah, Resistance is futile

As if that wasn’t enough, the government is apparently hot on the trails of anyone who dares speak out against AI.

Want to protest AI data centers in Philadelphia? You’ll be put on a list. Targeted for surveillance. And it’s not just happening in Philly. A newly created intelligence arm of Congress now scrapes social media for any incendiary posts against data centers.

But wait, there’s more. According to Wired, anyone who even expresses anti-tech sentiments can now be put on a terror watch list, for possible “anti-tech extremism.”

It’s quite a situation. AI is taking over and the government could stand in the way of anyone who dissents. This is not science fiction. It is real and happening now, and there is nothing slowing it down.

Resistance has never been more necessary.

But it must be a new kind of resistance. One that evades not only governmental surveillance, but also the all-seeing eyes of AI algorithms. One that turns the system against itself, using tech as a tool of dissent, all while flooding the data with apparent nonsense to throw off pattern-seeking algorithms.

That’s why the next stage of my Human in the Loop series will focus on technique.

We’re going to talk about ways to organize a resistance when the entire eye of Sauron can see what we’re doing. When avoiding governmental surveillance is no longer the main danger.

And it’s going to be fun.

Join me here next week for more.

One response to “Human in the Loop: A call to action”

  1. I shall be telling this with a sigh

    Somewhere ages and ages hence:

Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—

I took the one less traveled by,

And that has made all the difference…So, maybe Frost was speaking about AI and our resistance.
